Department of Seijo Miyazawa Clinic
For our interview, we visited “Miyazawa Clinic”, which opened in 2004.
It is located 2 minutes on foot from Seijogakuenmae Station North Exit, and combines a pain clinic with a psychosomatic medicine department, offering care for both “body” and “mind”.
We interviewed Dr. Miyazawa, president of the clinic.
When you enter the clinic, the layout creates a warm atmosphere.
The red themed furniture and lighting create a calming atmosphere.
Dr. Miyazawa chose the red theme because she wants patients who come with emotional or physical pain to feel some comfort. She also happens to love the colour red!
Relaxation music also plays in the treatment rooms to help the patients relax.
After working at a university hospital, Dr. Miyazawa opened the “Miyazawa Clinic” in order to become a home doctor in Setagaya Ward.
She explained that she tries to provide close emotional support to patients suffering “pain”, paying close attention to “body and soul”.
As we conducted our interview, all manner of patients, young and old, visited the clininc.
There also some students who visit here for the purspose of human relations and study.
Although the recognition of “emotional pain” is spreading, Dr. Miyazawa explained strongly that “I want everyone to know more!”
In recent years, physical handicaps deriving from mental problems have garnered much attention, and the existence of psychosomatic medicine departments is very important.
Dr. Miyazawa said that she wanted people to feel easy about coming to the clinic if they feel they may have a problem, and not be limited by prejudices that make it difficult to visit a psychosomatic clinic.
We hope that, with this article, the barrier of such prejudice will be lowered, even if just by a little.
Miyazawa Clinic, Thank you for taking the time out during your busy schedule.
