Seijo Anya is an old-fashioned Japanese sweet shop that people can enjoy every day
We visited the Japanese sweet shop “Seijo Anya” which is located 2 minutes on foot from Seijo Gakuenmae station.
Seijo Anya is a Japanese sweet shop, loved by locals since its establishment in 2004.
This was the sight that greeted us when we first entered the store.
They have an open kitchen. This is not uncommon for pastry shops, but we were surprised to see it in a Japanese sweet shop.
When we asked why they had adopted such a style, the answer was that they wanted the customers to be able to see the beautiful process of making Japanese sweets so that they could fully appreciate the appeal of Japanese sweets.
Next, we took a look around the inside of the store.
What an array of Japanese sweets!
The basic concept behind the product lineup is to be able to provide healthy Japanese sweets, made in traditional ways from traditional ingredients, so that local people can enjoy them every day.
Therefore, the shop does not specialize in a single Japanese confection, but has a product lineup that can be enjoyed every day.
In the back of the shop there is a tea ceremony room, and here the lighting is a little more subdued, to give a relaxed atmosphere.
Wood and washi paper have been used for the interior, and flowing water and glass particles on the wall surface have been used to create a space that is stylish with traditional Japanese harmony.
We learned that the interior décor was done with the same concept as making Japanese sweets, utilising raw materials as they are.
Also, we were treated to some delicious kuromitsu-agar, which perfectly suits this season.
When you first look at the agar, it is quite transparent!
First, I tried a piece, without adding the kuromitsu. My mouth was filled with the good texture and taste of the amakusa algae.
We learned that the secret is that Anya’s agar is not ordinary agar, which is dried, but it is made by boiling the Amakusa algae ordered from Minami Izu in a large pan every day, thereby erasing the smell of seaweed, and making it smooth and elastic.
Furthermore, when I added kuromitsu, I said just one word, “Delicious!”
The kuromitsu was modest in sweetness, without the unique tang of kuromitsu, and had good compatibility with the agar.
This kuromitsu was obtained from Tanegashima, and its characteristic is a gentle taste with no impurities.
In the tea ceremony room, not only sweets but also Inari udon is available, and this is made so that you can even drink all of the udon soup and it will be good for your health.
In addition to this, the product line-up changes according to the seasons so that customers can enjoy the change of the seasons with their eyes and taste buds.
Why not try Seijo Anya’s sweets as a present to an important person, or a reward to yourself?
Thank you very much!
