今回私達は、小田急成城学園前駅から徒歩15分、バスでは北口から「成01」「成04」「成05」系統「成城三番」下車 徒歩2分の「こはた歯科」さんにお邪魔させて頂きました。今回、取材にご協力頂いたのは院長の小畑由美子さんです。
こはた歯科さんは院長のお父様が開業し約40年、地域の方のホームドクターとして、治療を行っています。
この職業に就こうと思った理由として、父がやっていたところを小さい頃から見ていて、自然と自分も歯医者になろうと思うようになったそうです。また、自宅が成城だったことから馴染み深いこの土地で歯医者をやろうと思ったとおっしゃっていました。
仕事をしている上で大切にしていることは、患者さんの訴えていることをよく読み取ること、またお年寄りが多いのでしっかりと言葉に耳を傾けることだそうです。
また、患者さんだけではなく、働くスタッフともお互い気持ちよく過ごせるようにすることを心掛けているそうです。
小畑さんは他の歯医者との違いとして、一人一人患者さんと関わり、様々な治療案を挙げて患者さんが気に入ったものを選んでもらうこと、女性の歯科医が担当しているため、患者さんの恐怖心を和らげてあげられることを挙げられていました。
歯科医をやっていて、精神面で嬉しいことや大変なことはたくさんあるが、患者さんが治ってお礼を言われるとやりがいを感じるそうです。
今後の展望として、町の歯医者として来やすい場所にするために、患者さんとのコミュニケーションをより大切すること、院内のバリアフリー化を行うことを挙げられていました。
最後にアピールポイントを伺ったところ、訪問歯科治療を行っていること、患者さんとのコミュニケーションを大切にしていること、ちょっとした歯並びの不具合を治せるマウスピースを取り扱っていることだとおっしゃっていました。

“Kohata Dental Surgery” for treatments close to patients
Our interview took us to “Kohata Dental Surgery”, 15 minutes on foot from Odakyu Seijo Gakuen-mae Station, and two minutes from “Seijo Sanban” bus stop, served by bus routes 1, 4 and 5, from the north exit of the station. We spoke to the head of the surgery, Ms. Yumiko Kohata.
Ms. Kohata’s father opened the surgery about 40 years ago, and they have been serving the area as family dentists ever since.
One of the reasons she decided to get into this profession was that she watched what her father was doing from a young age, and naturally began to want to become a dentist. She also explained that she wanted to work as a dentist in this familiar place because her home was Seijo.
The important thing in working is read what patients are really trying to say, and to listen carefully because there are many elderly patients.
In addition, not only patients, but also the staff are trying to make a comfortable working environment for each other.
As to the differences from other dentists, Miss Kohata listed getting patients to choose favorite remedies by looking after them on an individual basis, and suggesting various remedies, and being able to ease their fear because a female dentist is taking care of them.
As a dentist, even though there are many happy things and also serious matters, she feels motivated when her patients recover and thank her.
As for her hopes for the future, she listed placing emphasis on communication between patients and making barrier-free design in the surgery, in order to make it a very accessible place as a dentist of the town.
In the end, when we asked about her main sales points, she mentioned providing at-home dental treatment, placing emphasis on communication with patients, and the mouthpiece that she uses that can correct slight irregularities in dentition.
